  • CoastHills Employees Take a Hike for Cottage Children's Hospital

Children's Miracle Network

For the second consecutive year, CoastHills Federal Credit Union employees have put their hair on the line for a most worthy cause. They shaved their heads to help raise $20,000 for the Children's Miracle Network.

CoastHills Contributes $40,000 to Children’s Miracle Network

CoastHills Federal Credit Union presented three checks totaling $40,000 Sunday, May 31st, to the Children’s Miracle Network during the annual Cottage Health System Telethon aired by KEYT – TV.

The checks were presented by Hugh Rafferty, CoastHills Board of Directors Chair, and by Jeff York, President/CEO, and added significantly to the overall total contributions of more than $525,000 over the weekend. That topped 2008’s total, which was $456,000.

The first check totaling $10,000 represented contributions from CoastHills’ members and employees, including in-branch donations, payroll deductions, and proceeds from a garage sale held at their Vandenberg Village headquarters in April.

The second check also totaling $10,000 came from The Co-Op Financial Services “Miracle Match Program.” CO-OP Financial Services, headquartered in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, is the nation’s largest credit union services organization, providing branch ATM network services for CoastHills.

The final check totaling $20,000 came from “Credit Union for Kids,” a national organization of credit unions aimed at providing support for Children’s hospitals across the country. The regional chapter of Credit Union for Kids staged their annual wine auction in March, and the allocation of the proceeds to Cottage Hospital totaled $20,000.

“People helping people, this is what credit unions do, this is who we are,” commented Mr. Rafferty.

“Credit Unions are one of the top supporters of the Children’s Miracle Network, and our staff and members step up to the plate every year,” added Mr. York. “ I think we all have been touched by what the Cottage Hospital does for the children in our communities, and we just can’t let the challenging economic times hinder our support.”

Funds raised this year will help in building a new Cottage Children’s Hospital, which will bring several care components together on one floor.

Children’s Miracle Network is the alliance of premier hospitals for Children, including the Cottage Children’s Hospital in Santa Barbara. For more information on CMN, go to childrensmiraclenetwork.org.
