$100,000 Donation to Local Food Banks

With the tremendous support of the community, CoastHills Community Foundation donates more than $100,000 to the Food Banks of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties in just three years!

Our Community Foundation Tops

$100,000 for Local Food Banks

The two events were billed as "A celebration of food, wine and community." When they had concluded, the real celebrating was on behalf of the Food Banks of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, and the 2,000 kids who benefit from their BackPack programs.

The CoastHills Community Foundation's first effort in 2009 was entitled the "Blue Jean Bash," held on June 27th at the picturesque Chateau Felipe in Templeton. This event provided more than 200 SLO County residents and Food Bank supporters with a sampling of food and beverages from numerous local vendors. The event included a silent and live auction, plus toe-tapping music from the Monte Mills and the Lucky Horseshoe Band. When all was said, sipped, and done, the Blue Jean Bash generated $20,000 in net proceeds for the SLO County Food Bank to provide support for their BackPack program.

"This is our third year working with CoastHills on events that benefit the BackPack program," commented Carl Hansen, the SLO County Food Bank's Executive Director. "Their passion for our programs is incredible, and their ability to put on a great event is a key part of the success."

The BackPack Program has been implemented to ensure that nutritious food, rather than hunger, becomes a regular part of a child's life. The program's recipients include children who participate in school lunch activities and after-school activities, but run the risk of being hungry on the weekends when these traditional programs are not available.

On Saturday, September 19th among the elegant backdrop of Nipomo's Monarch Club, the CoastHills Community Foundation's third annual "Rancho Vino" event surpassed the net proceeds of any other Credit Union-organized event. With "Shades of Grey" providing the music and a true A-list of wineries and vendors providing the culinary spirit, the event generated more than $30,000 in net proceeds that will be shared between the two Count Food Banks to provide continued support for the BackPack programs. When the proceeds of these two events are combined with the proceeds pf the two previous Rancho Vino events, CoastHills Community Foundation donations to the BackPack programs have now topped the $100,000 mark in just three years.

"Even though these events take a huge amount of organization, we truly enjoy doing them," CoastHills Community Foundation Chair Scott Coe said. "It is a great way to enjoy the beauty of the Central Coast while creating vital funding for kids who need it most."
